Tangerine! 1.3 Rocking Along with Leopard

The Leopard compatible Tangerine! is finally out. The thought of dropping DRMed song support popped into my head many times, but in the end I managed to pull through. As usual, it's a free upgrade if you bought it already, and if you didn't, you can try it for free for 15 days.

Oh, and it's got one of those huge 512 pixel icons now. I actually had to recreate it from scratch because I had lost the old one in a hard drive crash. Yep, I was one of the ninety-some percent of users who didn't backup properly. If only had I had Time Machine back then.

Tangerine!

Potion Factory and Leopard

I just released Voice Candy 1.2 with Leopard compatibility. It actually took more work than I anticipated, but it's finally done and it even has a 512 by 512 pixel icon now. As usual for a .1 release, it is a free upgrade so if you're a Voice Candy user, you should get it.

Tangerine!, however, is taking longer than expected due to DRM protected song support. For the time being, if you are a Tangerine! user, I suggest filtering out protected songs using the rules in Tangerine!'s preferences. It works OK otherwise though. My original plan was to have both apps ready today, but at this point I'm hoping to bring full Leopard compatibility to Tangerine! by the end of next week.

Leopard looks pretty sweet and I hope a lot of you get it because my next app will be Leopard only. It is just too hard to pass up new technology in Leopard for the sake of Tiger compatibility.

Potion Store 0.3.0 Released

I just released Potion Store 0.3.0, the latest version of my trusty store code. The most noteworthy improvements are sales charts and automatic credit card type detection. You can get the gory details of the release here and check out the project here. The project page has some screenshots of the administration interface now.

Tangerine! 1.2.2 Released

About 3 hours after my "oh no! the sky has fallen on me again" blog post, Tangerine! has been updated to work with the new QuickTime 7.2. You might want to hold back on the QT upgrade since there are still those other problems people are reporting, but at least Tangerine! won't hold you back any longer.

Download latest Tangerine!

Tangerine! 1.1 Released

We released Tangerine! 1.1 this morning after working on it for many weeks. Normally, we like to release more frequently so that existing customers can immediately benefit from our work, but we had to rewrite quite a bit of internal code due to some big new features: presets and rules.

With the new presets you can now save and recall the settings in the new playlist sheet. There weren't that many settings before so presets weren't really necessary but it is a must have with the other big new feature, rules. With rules you can now create playlists from specific genres, playlists, artists, etc. This was a feature that was requested the most and we got right on it after taking a brief breather after the 1.0 release. A big thanks to Steve Harris of Reinvented Software again for letting us use his rule editor code.

There are many other new features though. You can read the rest of the release notes here:
Tangerine! Release Note

Our next focus will be improved analysis quality and perhaps even getting at the bits of iTunes purchased songs (gasp!).

Say Hello to Tangerine! 1.0

We are finally done with the 1.0 release of Tangerine! and proud to announce that you can get your download fresh off the compiler here.

We had a longer than expected beta period due to unexpected turns and twists, but that's how it always goes with these things.

Now, we promised that we would send free licenses back in October if you blogged about our new baby. I am officially announcing that blog posts from now on don't count. We do have to pay the bills after all :) Those who blogged or sent us useful bug reports will get their license soon. At the time I thought that maybe a few of you would write, but I was pleasantly proven wrong with the overwhelming response. So, it's possible that we may miss a few blog posts. If you blogged and don't receive your license within a few days, please let us know. Thank you all for your help and support. We love you.
Tangerine! 0.9.5 Released

Last night we released Tangerine! 0.9.5. The new name is now officially Tangerine!.

We haven't updated the appcast because due to the name change, Sparkle does not work. Those of you who already are running Tangerine will have to download it again.

This new version uses an entirely different approach for fetching album art. It will read iTunes 7 album arts and it should be more stable. The BPM export to iTunes should be much more reliable as well. It wasn't all just bug fixes though. We did put in a bit more polish and a few new features as well. My favorite change is the orange LCD. Anyhow, you can read the full release note to see what we've been up to.

Download the new version of Tangerine!

Voice Candy 1.1

Voice Candy 1.1 is out!

The major new feature in this release is the voice note manager. After recording a clip, use the Save as Note action. After that you can access the recording through the Notes window (⌘3) that looks like this:

It should be self explanatory, but here are a few things that might not be obvious:

You can change the playback rate. You can vary the playback rate between 0.5 to 2.5 times the original speed. This should be a big help to those who use Voice Candy to record meetings or lectures. This will allow you to review it much faster or examine specific portions in detail. The great thing about this feature is that it does not affect the pitch despite the speed change. Incidentally, holding down the next button will also fast forward through the recording.

You can perform actions on these notes. You do so through the Actions menu or by control-clicking them.

You can rename a note by clicking on its title. Double click plays it

You can control the volume with your mouse wheel (and if you didn't know already, a bonus tip: you can adjust the clock in the remind action with the mouse wheel too)

Although these are called "Notes", feel free to record much longer clips and save it here.

The other new feature of this release is the ability to monitor the recording--you can now listen to the effects live as the program is recording. Laptop users shouldn't record from the built-in mic and monitor using the built-in speakers though, as that is a sure way of getting feedback noise. You can set the monitor device in Voice Candy's Recording Preferences.

All in all, we're proud to offer you this significant upgrade for free.
