The Hit List has been in closed beta for about two weeks now and things have been progressing well. I wanted to release a 1.0 version as soon as possible, but based on the feedback I'm receiving, I'm back to the "it'll be done when it's ready" status. The first major feature I have decided to add is recurring tasks.
While I'm certain that THL won't be THE solution for everybody, I'm very encouraged by the tweets some beta testers are posting. Validation like this is especially gratifying since I've been working on it under the radars for so long without receiving a lot of feedback.
This stuff is pretty much crack cocaine for developers:
I would like to certify for all those curious that The Hit List is very, very impressive. andy_matuschak
The Hit List (upcoming GTD app for OS X) is absolutely outstanding. It's really well done, especially for a beta! chris24
beta testing a new task manager The Hit List. This thing KILLS Things and Omnifocus. I"m totally in love. keyboard commands that make sense jasonglaspey
So the hit list (new gtd program I'm helping beta test) is the shit. Seriously, imagine Things ease-of-use and the power of OmniFocus. Ericbobmyers
If you're looking for a task manager with the power of OmniFocus or Things but that does not impose it's own workflow check out The Hit List KG6BGJ
Just got my hands on a beta of The Hit List. Omnifocus and Things are now in the Trash. johnrust
This is probably the only time I'll ever get emotional over a Mac application. This app is everything I've ever dreamed of, and more. <3 johnrust
I'm liking The Hit List (new MAc app for project management/GTD)... you can tell they really sweated the interface details tonyvia
ByeBye Things. Hello, The Hit List - http://tinyurl.com/9hkt8d dancounsell
Moving my tasks from Things to The Hit List by @andypotion of Potion Factory. So far it's awesome. markjardine
@preshit Been spending the last hour or so using it and I have to say yes. It blows away Things and Omnifocus even in its beta state markjardine
Going on the record right now: The Hit List will be the Coda of GTD apps. elihorne
One last note. I'm taking more beta testers in blocks when I have new builds ready for testing. If you have signed up to the beta group, please have patience.

Comments
Hello,
I've got a 0.9.1.1beta (101) version of The Hit List. It's far the best GTD application I've ever had. No doubts about it. But - is there any chances to have an option to make the font in outline view smaller?
I've got a lot of tasks every day and I just want to see them all.
Thanks in advance,
meewosh
I've been putting THL through its paces for well over a week and can't get it to crash. It's incredibly well designed (and I've been testing PIMS since Lotus Organizer!) and a pleasure to use. My only suggestion so far is an aesthetic one: maybe there could be a better-looking way to show dragged URLs in an entry, since they can end up looking like this:
Look at
http://www.amazon.com/Field-Darkness-Cornelia-Read/dp/0446699497/ref=pd_...
Keep up the amazing work!
I've signed up for a beta of THL, but haven't received an invite yet. I know how much you've probably been deluged with requests, and I respect your desire to introduce testers in blocks - but I would absolutely love to start using THL with the new year. So... um... any chance you could hook me up? :-D
Tried all the others...big big big fan of Things...can't imagine anything better but the comments about your product are staggering...like..."Things is in the trash now!"
I would be honored to participate in this beta.
thanks,
Morgan
Fed up with the lack of communication from the developers of Things. And with their 1.0 release candidate, which totally underwhelms and still hasn't fixed issues from their beta releases, I'm looking reaaaaallly hard at THL and I love what I see.
The developer Andy has been great, responding to bug reports within half an hour (on occasion) - that's a passionate developer!
Now, if only there was an iPhone version..sigh. The developer has stated it WILL be coming eventually.
Andy, it would be great of you could add more of us in into the beta soon. I would rather not buy Things in the pre-sale if Hit List suits me better.
I'm in the same boat as Ayodh. Eagerly awaiting that invite!
Almost purchased Daylite, waiting for this. Any ETA?
Sorry, but there is no ETA. I am working hard on it though.
One question... are you able to include notes to tasks/projects? I log my progress via a date/time stamp w/ some info, so space to do this is crucial (for me anyway).
Thanks.
Yes.
where does THL put it's library doc and is it possible to use something like Dropbox to keep multiple computers in sync?
jac
jac, I use Dropbox to sync the library for use on multiple computers. Works fine, except for now you have to press Alt when starting up THL to select the library manually. It doesn't automatically re-open the last library (yet).
Andy my friend... it looks like you've got yourself a new customer ;)
Hi there. I heard from a friend that THL is much better than Things for iPod touch. I am looking to get a todo list manager soon. Any way I can be included in the beta?
Would love to test the application. I signed up for the Google group. Do we need to do anything other than wait?
Thanks
I'm getting enough feedback as is, so I'm not taking any more beta testers until the next build is ready. I do appreciate everybody's interest and patience though.
Hi Andy, I am sure that the present testers are filling you with suggestions, but I would love to get in to see if Hit List would fit me and I should wait to invest time and money in it. Maybe some screencasts might do the trick.
Also if you are worried about feedback overload I promise not to give any, until you give us the green signal :)
Hi Andy,
I've been using the beta builds of Things for a year. After seeing your screenshot and reading your reviews, I'd rather not purchase Things (at least until I've tried The Hit List).
But here's the rub: all Things beta testers are going to get locked out of trial mode on Jan 15th. If there's a way that we could try THL at that time, that would be huge. If not, I'll continue using Things Touch until I get a chance to take THL for a spin. Clearly, it's worth the wait. Keep up the great work.
Hi,
I'm agree with Mark. I'm also using Things for a long time now and as everybody, I've received the code for the discount.
It would be a good strategic move from you Andy to make the beta public asap before Things 1.0 is released and many GTD fans buy it, even if THL is not totally finished yet.
Just an opinion.
Regards.

I've read that THL will cost about 70$. If that's true, dear developers, that's quite a lot. I'd even say that's too much. Please think more about what it's worth to potential buyers than what it's app is worth to you. After all THL is just a tool for managing personal tasks and errands.
Btw. how much is a copy of Mac Os X again?
I'm in the same boat as the Things pre-releasers above; I'd love to be added to the HitList beta group when the next window opens ...
I'm using things too. I'd like to have the opportunity of testing THL before I buy things. After I've paid 39 $ I won't buy another to do manager for a lot of time.
Martino
iPhone? That's a killer for me.
I've been using OmniFocus for over a year and have tried most other GTD apps. After downloading your Beta, I can honestly say that I will use THL much more than other GTD apps. This is the real litmus test for me. With GTD applications, I start with great intentions and wind up not using all the time.
The only downside is no iPhone app or email integration. I travel quite a bit and really need mobile access.
Thank you for the excellent development effort. I am purchasing a THL Family Pack right after finishing this post.
Hi,
The Hit List is the simple yet the-everything-in-the-right-place app. And I like the most that I can have my both hands on the keyboard, not even on the trackpad.
But, whenever I add a context or a tag in a language other than English, say Korean, it freezes my system. Mouse pointing works but that's all I can do except for force reboot by pressing power button. Any chance to see it fixed in the next beta?
And, there is one more thing... :)
Are you planning to support a repeated task feature which Things and OmniFocus already had in their very first beta? If you are, I am definitely determined to THL.
The Hit List is the best task management app, hands down, for a student like me. Thanks so much!
Hey! Love the app!
Was wondering if you have any particular place that we can post feature suggestions?
Iv started using the Cards view of the Hit List quite tremendously - would love to see slightly more advanced writing functionality... the ability to add bullets, tabbed text, etc. Just in order to make the text more structured and readable for myself.
Btw - theres a big review of The Hit List next to OmniFocus and Things on my blog - i think youll be pleasantly surprised with the review!
Regards,
SS
Hey there Potion Factory people,
Love The Hit List, I was lucky enough to grab a copy as part of a Mac Heist bundle and it pretty much saved my A-level IT qualification. However, I now have an iPhone and I can't find anything other than rumor for a sidekick iPhone app. This unfortunately pushes me towards using Things on both my iPhone (which is excellent) and my Mac (which is less comfortable to use than The Hit List).
Please, please develop a companion app for the iPhone asap and make a lot of noise about it, because it is The Hit List's single major flaw vs other apps such as Things and OmniFocus.
I Love The Hit List, for me now is in 50% when release the iPhone Version is on 100%.
Some forecast month to release the iPhone Version?
Regards
I found the beta for THL right before I was about to purchase Things. I love this little ap! It really helped me to stay on top of a very important freelance project (just completed today, yippee!) I would really love to buy this program, but like many others who have chimed in, need to know that an iPhone ap will be available. I don't have an iPhone yet, but plan to buy one in January. A simple message to THL fans with an update of progress made would be helpful. Until then, I'll hold off buying until I know more. Thanks for developing this little gem.
Finally a GTD I can use !
I've no time to spend in writing things, but THL is fast and easy to use and match perfectly way my way to post things.
Now I'm working with 0.9.3.16beta (132) and works fine on my MacBookPRo with Leopard. Is fast and small than Mail or Safari.
My professional life is splitted between web & graphic design and music (guitar player & teacher) so I've a lot of things to keep in mind and THL is a great help.
I'm waiting for the iPhone version.
Please ad Syncing!
I want to sync between several desktops in an office environment
so i can assign tasks to others or vise versa
How many computers can I install the family pack on?
Infinite?
Thanks!
Joe
The family pack is for up to 5 computers in the same household. It does not apply to businesses.
My opinion: The Hit List will be a big hit and it will force even the most outspoken fans of Omni and Things to reconsider.
Many thanks to the developer!
Beta tester ready and willing. Please email me.
It would be nice to hear some news about the current status of the iPhone version as this is really the missing stone for this great app. I like it a lot but without the iPhone app I'll probably switch to something else soon.
I agree with michi-es we really need some kind of update on this, its all gone too quiet. People are hanging in there for the iPhone app, even a web version so you could even see your todo list or email to it... some kind of short term solution would be nice...
Its such a great app - its just a shame it feels a bit like waiting at the airport and getting no info on why your flight isnt leaving.
Hoping for some good news soon!
