We've been working non-stop to fix the crashes and hope to have another update soon. Most of the crashes were happening with the album art fetching so this time we're using a completely different approach. Thank you everyone who sent in crash reports and feedback. We haven't been able to respond to all of you because we've received a massive load of emails these past few days, but we do read each and every one of them and your feedback is much appreciated.
Moving on, here are answers to two frequently asked questions:
What is beat intensity?
Beat intensity is simply how strong the detected beat is. Hip-Hop and Techno music will usually have the
highest beat intensity while Classical music will have the lowest beat intensity. It is not the intensity of the music. However, upbeat songs usually have high beat intensity and high BPM. Tangerine tends to be more accurate with the BPM when the beat intensity is higher too.
I already have BPM values that I manually set in iTunes. Will Tangerine overwrite those?
Tangerine will not overwrite your iTunes BPM values. In fact it will use iTunes BPM values if present. Sometimes you may see ridiculous BPM numbers such as 13000. If this is you, that BPM is set in iTunes. As of the current beta, Tangerine will never set a BPM value outside the range of 52 to 180.
Now, a question for the reader:
Since we have launched the beta we've found one Tangerine and a second Tangerine that has gone 1.0 four days after. They both seem like pretty cool projects and it would be nice to avoid confusion amongst the users so we need a new name. So far we have come up with Tangerine! and Tangerine3. We would like to hear your suggestions and thoughts on this.
Lastly, I interviewed with Jacqui Cheng at Ars Technica where I reveal a little more about Tangerine.

Tangerine!
Tambourine.
Most definitely Tangerine!
Why not shorten it and make it totally unique like "Tangy"?
It's a cute and short name for a cute app that packs a punch.
You wouldn't have to change the icon or anything either. But may have to throw away that secret domain you bought...
I think "Tambourine" sounds pretty good. It more accurately describes what the app is about. Maybe you could alter the icon slightly to make the tangerine into a... uh... tambourine? Either way, it's a great app and it's sure to be successful!
I would choose Tangerine! too. One question: I blogged about the beta and would like to ask, if the license will be sent when you reach the final?
Thanks for that great app!
TBH, I'm not so interested in what you call it, what really matters to me is having more accurate results. When it stops telling me that I have blues laments at 170+ BPM, I'll happily part with my cash for this software.
How about TangerineJ - because its all about the "Juice" that's inside
This is just a great app. and the icon is one of the best I´ve seen. Congrats to you.
I like Tangerine!
Tambourine
how about Beets? Then you get the pleasure of illustrating a square beet of your choice, red, white, yellow, beige, green, or all colours together in a mix...! (get it?) Sorry, couldn't help myself there. But at least its better than BPMerits, which was my intuitive first. Sorry 'bout that, too. Good luck.
Beets 1.0 - not quite Tangerine, but it has something... hmm.
Tangorine
Mandirina!
Is there a currently a set maximum for the number of tracks that Tangerine! can/will analyze for the BPM?
I ask because out of 12,900 tracks (no, that's not a misprint) I have, only about 50% of them appear to have been analyzed and the BPM recorded.
(great app, btw!)
I haven't got a chance to check this out yet (it is analyzing my tracks right now), but I like Tangerine and think you should keep the names along the lines of this. Possibly...
-Citrus (the icon would still work)
-TuneFruit because of the iTunes and Tangerine connection
Tangytune?
I like the "Beets" idea. Clever and accurate. This being said, you can call it whatever you want as long as you get the algorithm polished up a little bit. I've already blogged it and quite a few other dj's have swung by and gotten the beta, and the only complaint I've had from them as well is that it's not accurate all the time, confusing acapella bpm's, as well as some songs with more complex beats. Also, anyway to select individual or groups of songs to reanalyze would be a plus. If you guys can perfect this I'd definitely be down to pay for a license.
1) How about changing "beat intensity" to "beat strength"? The intensity label confused me until you explained it.
2) How about "BeatSqueezer"? It's a more explanatory title and it also retains the connection to citrus. You could have some great taglines too, like "Juice up your music" or whatever...
